The Three Rivers Health District, a 10-county district of health departments covering the Middle Peninsula and Northern Neck areas of the Commonwealth, is a part of the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) that serves the citizens of these localities preventing illness, promoting healthy lifestyles, and protecting the environment.
As part of VDH, this position is a full-time state position with benefits including health insurance and retirement.
There are two positions that may be filled from this posting.
They are based in Gloucester County and King William County with the base point location possibly being negotiable within the district.
Some travel will be required within the district with a personal vehicle with mileage reimbursement or with an agency vehicle when one is available.
Typical work hours are 8:
00am to 4:
30pm with some flexibility necessary depending on work location needs.
The Virginia Department of Health, Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program is seeking a Nutritionist to provide nutrition services to clients in a variety of settings within the ten counties of the Three Rivers Health District.
The WIC Program provides nutrition education, breastfeeding promotion and support, supplemental nutritious foods, counseling at WIC clinics, and screening and referrals to other health, welfare, and social services.
The goal of the Program is to improve the health of pregnant women, infants and children (under 5 years) through better nutrition and access to health care.
The Division of WIC and Community Nutrition Services supports public health community nutrition throughout the Commonwealth.
This effort is promoted through nutrition education topics including breastfeeding promotion and support.
This position provides direct service by conducting nutritional assessments and developing nutritional care plans to meet specific client needs.
Minimum QualificationsMust have experience assessing the nutritional status of and identifying risk factors of pregnant and breastfeeding women, infants, and children at risk for poor nutrition related outcomes; experience developing a nutrition care plan; experience teaching individuals and groups; knowledge and experience providing nutrition counseling and nutrition education; proficiency in office computer skills; and experience with breastfeeding or with counseling breastfeeding mothers.
A valid State Driver's License is required to operate a state vehicle or if operating a personal vehicle while conducting business on behalf of the agency.
Per Code of Virginia (Chapter 27.
1 Dietitians and Nutritionists), a dietitian or nutritionist must have at least one of the following criteria listed below:
1.
Has (i) received a baccalaureate or higher degree in nutritional sciences, community nutrition, public health nutrition, food and nutrition, dietetics, or human nutrition from a regionally accredited college or university and (ii) satisfactorily completed a program of supervised clinical experience approved by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics; 2.
Has active registration through the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics; 3.
Has an active certificate of the Board for Certification of Nutrition Specialists as a Certified Nutrition Specialist; 4.
Has an active certification as a Diplomate of the American Clinical Board of Nutrition; 5.
Has a current license or certificate as a dietitian or nutritionist issued by another state; or 6.
Has the minimum requisite education, training and experience determined by the Board of Health Professions appropriate for such person to hold himself out to be, or advertise or allow himself to be advertised as, a dietitian or nutritionist.

(i) has a baccalaureate degree with a major in food and nutrition or dietetics or has equivalent hours of food and nutrition coursework and (ii) has two years of work experience in nutrition or dietetics concurrent with or subsequent to completion of such degree, provided he is employed by or under contract to a government agency and practices solely within the scope of such employment.
Preferred QualificationsRegistered Dietitian (RD) or RD eligible.
Experience working with the WIC Program.
Previous experience working with a diverse population.
Bilingual in Spanish and English is a plus.
Special RequirementsThis is a restricted position which is solely funded by USDA WIC grant for federal fiscal year ending 9/30.
The availability of funding is scheduled for review before the grant expiration date and periodically thereafter.
Employment is contingent on the continued availability of grant or non-general funds.
Employment is contingent upon satisfactory results of a state and federal criminal history background check and the Department of Social Service's Child Abuse and Neglect Central Registry check, US HHS IG Exclusion List check, employment reference check, and E-Verify.

Other financial, credit, driving, or other background checks prior to employment may be required for certain positions.
In accordance with Executive Directive #18, as a condition of employment, the Commonwealth of Virginia requires all Executive Branch employees, including new hires, to disclose their vaccination status.
If you are the selected candidate, proof of vaccination will be required during new employee orientation on your first day of work.
Employees that are not vaccinated must be tested weekly.
VDH requires all Health-Care Personnel (HCP) to provide documentation of immunization or evidence of immunity to the following:
hepatitis B, measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella; a one-time dose of tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap) vaccine regardless of the interval since the last dose of tetanus-diphtheria (Td) vaccine was administered (Td or Tdap boosters shall be received every 10 years); and the current year's seasonal influenza vaccination.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
